Brushing and flossing help to prevent a wide array of different oral health issues, keeping smiles healthy and beautiful. While these daily habits are essential for maintaining your oral health, they are only a part of the equation. Even with proper care, issues can still arise. At River's Edge Dental, we provide dental services for everyone in your family, from your youngest members to the oldest. We can help everyone maintain optimal oral health, helping you to prevent serious issues and keep your smiles happy and healthy.

Dentistry for Kids

Just like adults, kids need routine cleanings and exams, too. We provide your child with the cleanings and exams they need while also ensuring that their teeth and jaws are growing and developing properly. We provide a safe and secure environment, helping to make sure your child feels comfortable so that we can help them develop good oral hygiene that will ensure optimal oral health as they get older.

Your Child's First Visit

Your child should have their visit six months following the eruption of their first baby tooth, or by their first birthday, whichever occurs first. This visit is generally short. The focus is to introduce your child to the dental office and to help them get used to us. We take a quick look at their mouth and go over oral hygiene and oral habits with you, as well as answer any questions you may have.

Dental Emergencies for Kids

Kids have accidents. Accidents that result in dental injuries require treatment right away. We can provide your child with the emergency care they need, whether they develop a toothache, chip or crack a tooth, displace a tooth, or even knock a tooth out completely. If a baby tooth is knocked out or needs to be extracted, we can help to ensure proper development of the adult tooth below with a space maintainer.

Dental Cleanings & Exams

A dental cleaning falls in both the category of preventive care and cosmetic care, particularly for patients who have a prosthetic, such as a dental bridge, an implant or veneers. Maintaining a good oral care regime is even more important with dental appliances to meet and extend their lifespan. Brushing, flossing, while also having plaque and tartar removed, will reduce the likelihood of developing infection and tissue damage.

Periodontal Treatment

Gum disease is a common dental issue that only grows worse the longer it goes untreated. We can provide the periodontal treatments you need to restore the health of your mouth following the development of gum disease from scaling and root planing to more invasive treatments like pocket reduction surgery and more.

Fluoride Treatment

Fluoride is a naturally-occurring mineral found in many of our foods and beverages. It is also a useful tool in fighting tooth decay. Every day, our teeth lose and gain minerals through the processes of demineralization and remineralization. If the process of demineralization exceeds that of remineralization tooth decay will occur. Professional fluoride treatment allows us to supplement the process of remineralization and prevent potential decay. It can even reverse minor instances of decay. Fluoride treatment is particularly beneficial for patients at a greater risk of tooth decay, such as children, teens, and seniors.

Tooth Extraction

While the preferred solution is to treat a damaged or decayed tooth, which allows it to remain in its socket, sometimes this is not possible. If a tooth is damaged beyond repair, extraction is the best option. By removing the tooth, we can help to prevent more serious damage and infections. Once the teeth have been extracted, they can be replaced.

Dental Sealants

Sealants are a preventative treatment that is designed to help prevent cavities from forming on the chewing surfaces of your molars. They seal the deep crevices on these surfaces, preventing the buildup of bacteria and food particles while also making your teeth easier to keep clean.

Mouth Guard

A night guard is an oral appliance that provides a cushion for your teeth and jaw while you sleep, preventing bruxism. We also provide mouthguards, which protect your teeth and jaws from injury while you play sports. Both of these devices are custom made to ensure proper fit, comfort, and optimal protection.

Sports Guard

Contact sports or sports with moving objects can be a very dangerous environment for your teeth. One extreme tackle or a ball hit into the mouth can do serious, sometimes permanent, damage to the jaw and mouth. If you participate in physical activities that put you at risk for dental trauma or injury, we strongly recommend a custom made sports mouthguard.

Bruxism

If you participate in physical activities that put you at risk for dental trauma or injury, we strongly recommend a mouthguard. A mouthguard will protect your teeth and prevent dental emergencies. If you suffer from bruxism (teeth grinding), we may also recommend a night guard. Many patients with bruxism tend to grind their teeth during sleep. A night guard acts as a barrier that prevents enamel wear.

Nitrous Oxide Sedation

Also called laughing gas, nitrous oxide is the mildest, safest, most common form of sedation. It involves the use of an inhaled gas, which is mixed with oxygen, that helps you to feel relaxed and calm, and completely conscious, during treatment. The effects wear off almost immediately, and there are no lingering side effects.
